Charlie Newell bought his first business in Newton in 1940.  He and his growing family also owned and operated “Newell’s Corner” on Old Highway 81, just south of town, from 1954 to 1981.

Over the years, Charlie began to dream of creating the “Ultimate Truck Stop”.  A place where travelers from all over the United States and folks right here at home could come for food, fuel and hospitality.

That dream became a reality in 1981 when Newell Truck Plaza officially opened.   More than 85 employees work to make the facility hum 24 hours a day 7 Days a week, 365 days a year.  Newell Truck Plaza fuels and feeds more than 2000 guests a day and many come back again and again.

The heartbeat of the plaza is the comfortable restaurant that serves up great food at reasonable prices “round the clock”.  On any given day you will find truckers stopping by for our 24/7 breakfast and a cup of Charlie’s famous coffee.  On Sundays, local families like to gather here for after-church dinner and a piece of pie.  If you peek in our east dining room on many weekday afternoons, you’re likely to find a group of lovely ladies engaged in a fierce round of bridge.

Charlie’s commitment to offering guests outstanding food and friendly service continues.  We hope you find your visit here pleasant and that you will come back soon!
